El 14 de abril de 2013, una funcionaria del Consejo Nacional Electoral y coordinadora del centro de votación ubicado en la Escuela Carlos Alberto Pelayo, de Araure, ubicado en Acarigua, estado Portuguesa, se negó a suministrarle la información sobre el proceso electoral a María José Aguilar, reportera del diario local Última Hora, quien acudió al lugar para cubrir el desarrollo de las elecciones presidenciales.
Aguilar relató a IPYS Venezuela que la funcionaria argumentó que no podía ofrecer declaraciones a la prensa por “órdenes de arriba”, por tanto no podía ofrecer detalles sobre la jornada. Agregó que la prensa no podía estar en el sitio.
En el mismo centro de votación, también, se le impidió al reportero gráfico Ediver Cantillo tomar fotografías de las colas.
IPYS Venezuela contactó vía telefónica a la secretaria general del Colegio Nacional de Periodistas, seccional Portuguesa, Mariangel Martínez, con el propósito de conocer si había recibido otras denuncias de agresiones o limitaciones al ejercicio periodístico en la entidad durante las elecciones. La líder gremial comentó que la jornada transcurrió con normalidad y no le habían notificado otras irregularidades.

Portuguesa: Coordinator of elections center withheld information from the press
On April 14, 2013, an official of the National Elections Council and coordinator of the voting center located in Carlos Alberto Pelayo School in Araure, Acarigua, Portuguesa state, refused to furnish information on the election process to María José Aguilar, reporter of local newspaper Última Hora, who had gone to the place to cover the news on the unfolding of the presidential elections.
Aguilar told IPYS Venezuela that the official argued that she could not offer any statement to the press due to “orders from above”, so she was unable to offer any details on the event. She added that the press was not allowed to be in the premises.
Graphic reporter Ediver Cantillo was also prevented from taking photographs of the long lines of voters waiting in front of the voting center.
IPYS Venezuela contacted Mariangel Martínez, the Secretary General of the National College of Journalists, Portuguesa chapter by phone in order to find out if other complaints had been received on assaults or limitations to exercising the work of journalists in that entity during the elections. The union leader commented that the day went by normally and that she had not been notified of any other irregularities.
