Del 27 y 29 de julio de 2013, personas desconocidas afectaron el servidor de la página del web Correo del Caroní (http://www.correodelcaroni.com/), periódico impreso con sede en Ciudad Guayana, estado Bolívar. El ataque cibernético provocó que el servidor del medio informativo fuese bloqueado luego de una saturación de entradas al portal.
Oscar Murillo, jefe de redacción del Correo del Caroní informó a IPYS Venezuela que desde el 27 la web recibió una cantidad indeterminada de visitas por minuto, que produjo la saturación del servidor, y su posterior bloqueo. Se desconoce quién ejecutó este ataque que perjudicó la difusión de información a través de este portal informativo.
El inconveniente fue resuelto el 30 de julio por los técnicos del Correo del Caroní, y la versión digital del periódico se encuentra disponible. Murillo explicó que el diario trabaja para reforzar sus mecanismos de seguridad y evitar que esta situación se vuelva a repetir.
El jefe de redacción explicó que el ataque cibernético impidió que lectores digitales de distintos puntos del país pudieran informarse a través de la web del Correo del Caroní. Describió que se considera una ofensiva de magnitud porque el medio cuenta con una alta cantidad de visitas diarias, y que los lectores de la web llegan a superar los alcances que mantiene el periódico a nivel impreso.
Oscar Murillo señaló que en las ediciones físicas del 27, 28 y 29 de julio -que no estuvieron disponibles en la web por el bloqueo del servidor- el Correo del Caroní publicó varios trabajos de seguimientos relacionados a la demanda civil y a la demanda penal que enfrenta David Natera, presidente del medio, y la Sociedad Mercantil EDITORIAL RODERICK, C.A, figura jurídica que representa al periódico (/search.aspx?search=Correo+del+Caron%C3%AD+julio+2013).
Las acciones legales fueron interpuestas por Yamal Mustafa, empresario y dueño del diario Primicia -de gestión privada- quien fue imputado por el Ministerio Público “por ser presuntamente cooperador inmediato en el delito de peculado doloso propio, concertación de funcionario público con contratista y asociación para delinquir”, en el caso de supuesta corrupción en Ferrominera del Orinoco, industria básica estatal (http://bit.ly/16XB900).

Bolívar: Unknown persons tapped into the portal of a local media
Between July 27 and 29, 2013, unknown persons affected the server of the web page of the Correo del Caroní (http://www.correodelcaroni.com/), a printed newspaper based in Ciudad Guayana, Bolívar state. The cyber-attack blocked the server of the media after the portal was saturated with entries.
Oscar Murillo, the chief editor of the Correo del Caroní, informed IPYS Venezuela that since the 27th the web page received an undetermined number of visits per minute, which saturated and then blocked the server. It is not known who executed this attack which hindered the broadcasting of information through this portal.
The inconvenience was solved on July 30 by the technicians of the Correo del Caroní, and the digital version of the newspaper is now available. Murillo explained that the daily is striving to reinforce its safety mechanisms and avoid this situation from happening again.
The chief editor explained that the cyber-attack prevented digital readers from different parts of the country from being informed through the web page of the Correo del Caroní. He described it as a considerable offensive attack because the media has a high number of daily hits, and the web readers surpass the number of readers of the printed newspaper.
Oscar Murillo pointed out that in the printed issues of July 27, 28 and 29 -which were not available on the web due to the blocked server- el Correo del Caroní published several follow-up notes related to the civil suit and the criminal suit faced by David Natera, president of the media, and mercantile society EDITORIAL RODERICK, C.A, the legal figure which represents the newspaper (/search.aspx?search=Correo+del+Caron%C3%AD+julio+2013).
These legal actions were filed by Yamal Mustafa, a businessman and owner of Primicia -a private newspaper- who was charged by the public prosecutor “for allegedly being an immediate collaborator in the crime of criminal embezzlement for his own gain, colluding with a public official and a contractor and associating with delinquents for criminal purposes”, in the case of alleged corruption at Ferrominera del Orinoco, a state-owned basic industry (http://bit.ly/16XB900).
