El 27 de mayo de 2013, el Presidente de la República Nicolás Maduro dijo que CNN en Español, canal de noticias internacional, con sede en Estados Unidos, “es una televisora puesta al servicio de la desestabilización, que llama abiertamente al golpe de Estado en Venezuela”. También, acusó a la prensa internacional de mantener un supuesto plan de “guerra psicológica”. Los señalamientos fueron realizados durante un acto oficial del Plan Patria Segura, realizado en Caracas, Distrito Capital.
El Presidente de la República dijo: “La televisión, dígame CNN, CNN en Español, es una televisora puesta al servicio de la desestabilización, que llama abiertamente al golpe de Estado en Venezuela, que tergiversa la vida política y social de nuestra patria. CNN en Español se ha convertido en la punta de lanza para promover una intervención en contra de nuestra patria”.
“24 horas del día de la programación de CNN no es para informar sobre el mundo, como debería ser, su función es para mal poner a Venezuela”, argumentó Nicolás Maduro.
El presidente también criticó que varios medios privados de Ecuador dedicaran varias páginas de sus periódicos y caricaturas para abordar la situación política de Venezuela, durante su visita oficial a ese país, realizada la semana anterior. A manera de las ilustraciones de la prensa ecuatoriana dijo: “Aparecía yo con un fusil y aparecía Diosdado. Yo (lo apuntaba porque) lo iba a fusilar”.
“Esto es una guerra psicológica brutal en contra de Venezuela que se ha orquestado país por país”, afirmó.
Nicolás Maduro, también, criticó, de modo general, la manera en las que los medios privados presentan y jerarquizan las informaciones, en especial en relación al Plan Patria Segura, un programa gubernamental para atender la situación de violencia e inseguridad ciudadana en el país
Por su parte, CNN en Español rechazó los señalamientos del mandatario venezolano. El canal internacional afirmó que en diversas oportunidades han extendidos invitaciones al Presidente de la República para realizar entrevistas desde el canal para conversar sobre la situación del país, y no han obtenido respuesta. “Una vez más invitamos al presidente Maduro públicamente a tener una conversación sobre estos importantes temas y esperamos que acepte”.

Caracas: President of the republic said that CNN en Español is calling to a “coup d’état in Venezuela”
On May 27, 2013, the President of the republic Nicolás Maduro said that CNN en Español, an international news channel based in the United States, “is a TV channel at the service of destabilization that is openly calling to a coup d’état in Venezuela”. He also accused the international press of maintaining an alleged “psychological warfare” plan. The statements were voiced during an official act of the Plan Patria Segura (translated as theSafe Homeland Plan), which took place in Caracas, Capital district.
The president of the republic said: “TV channels, for instance CNN, CNN en Español, are TV channels aimed at destabilizing, openly calling to a coup d’état in Venezuela, twisting our homeland´s political and social scenarios. CNN en Español has become the motor to promote an intervention to our homeland”.
“CNN´s 24 hours-programming is not informing about the world, as it should; its function is to shed a negative light on Venezuela”, Nicolás Maduro argued.
The president also criticized that several private media from Ecuador devoted several pages in their newspapers and cartoons to the political situation in Venezuela, during his official visit to that nation last week. To illustrate regarding the Ecuadorian press, he said: “I appeared (in the cartoon) with a rifle and Diosdado also appeared. I (pointed at him because) I was going to shoot at him”.
“This is brutal psychological warfare against Venezuela which has been orchestrated country by country”, he affirmed.
Nicolás Maduro also criticized the general manner in which the private media present and give importance to the information, especially regarding the Plan Patria Segura, a government program to attend to the violence and citizen insecurity in the nation
In turn, CNN en Español rejected the statements by the Venezuelan head of state. The international channel affirmed that on several opportunities it has extended invitations to the President of the republic to be interviewed and talk about the nation´s situation, and they have obtained no response. “Once again, we publicly invite president Maduro to have a conversation on these important topics and we hope he will accept”.
