El 5 de febrero de 2013, un equipo reporteril de Televen, televisora privada, -conformado por George Bajanchis, reportero; Orlando Chong, camarógrafo; y José Luis Bello, asistente- fue intimidado y amenazado por personas simpatizantes del oficialismo cuando llegaban al Hospital Militar Carlos Arvelo, una hora después que se anunció el fallecimiento de Hugo Chávez, Presidente de la República en este centro asistencial.
El equipo de Televen llegó al sitio y se percataron que en una de las calles de acceso al Hospital venía una multitud de personas corriendo. En medio de las personas pudieron ver que se debía a la agresión de Carmen Andrea Rengifo, reportera de RCN, canal de Colombia (/alerta?id=3340). Por la confusión que había y por la cantidad de personas, ellos tuvieron que seguir. En medio del alboroto, unas personas gritaron “Ellos son otros periodistas”.
El equipo de prensa empezó a correr y bajaron por una calle transversal al Hospital. Allí se encontraron a otras personas, quienes los rodearon e inmediatamente identificaron que eran de Televen, y no atacaron contra ellos. Les decían: “O se van, se mueren”. Como pudieron, en menos de 5 minutos salieron del sitio sin poder hacer la cobertura informativa.

Reporter crew was intimidated while covering the death of the President
On February 5, 2013, a reporter crew of Televen -a private TV station – comprising George Bajanchis, reporter, Orlando Chong, cameraman and José Luis Bello, assistant, were intimidated and threatened by supporters of the official party when they were arriving at the Carlos Arvelo military hospital, one hour after the announcement of the death of Hugo Chávez, President of the republic in that care facility.
Televen´s crew arrived to the site and realized that a multitude of persons were coming running from one of the streets accessing the hospital. In midst of the persons they managed to see the aggression perpetrated against Carmen Andrea Rengifo, reporter of RCN, a Colombian TV channel. Due to the confusion and the amount of persons, they were forced to go on. In midst of the ruckus, some persons shouted “there are some more journalists”.
The press crew started to run and went down a side street of the hospital. There, they encountered other persons, who surrounded them and immediately realized they were from Televen, so they were not attacked. They were told “either you leave or you die”. In less than 5 minutes they managed to leave the place without being able to cover the news.
