Reporteros denunciaron ante el Ministerio Público agresiones recibidas por efectivos militares

Entre el 14 y el 15 de febrero de 2013, Oliver Fernández, reportero de Televen; y los reporteros gráficos Esaúd Olivares, del diario El Universal; y Juan Camacho, de la agencia News Report denunciaron ante la Fiscalía General de la República las agresiones de las que fueron víctimas, por parte de efectivos militares. El hecho ocurrió cuando cubrían una manifestación pacífica de estudiantes que se desarrolló en la sede de la Embajada de Cuba en Venezuela, ubicada en el este de Caracas (/alerta?id=3299).

Esaúd Olivares relató a IPYS Venezuela que el mismo día de la agresión física acudió -en compañía de Rosanna Ladieri, asesora legal de El Universal- a la sede del Ministerio Público a denunciar este hecho, en el que también efectivos militares le quitaron la cámara fotográfica con la que había registrado algunas imágenes en el momento que los funcionarios de la Guardia Nacional Bolivariana (GNB) reprimieron la manifestación y se los llevaban detenidos. La denuncia fue recibida por la María Franchesca Andrade, Fiscal Trigésimo Segunda (32°)  del Ministerio Público. Olivares, también, agregó que el 19 de febrero, consignó ante el órgano de justicia, el informe médico forense que invidencia las agresiones recibidas; y la edición de El Universal correspondiente al 15 de febrero, que contenía una de las fotografías en las que aparecía el funcionario que lo había agredido.

Por su parte, Oliver Fernández informó a IPYS Venezuela que, el 15 de febrero acudió al Ministerio Público, en compañía de Daniel Betancourt, consultor jurídico del canal privado Televen. La denuncia fue recibida por 125 Juan Barradas Fiscal Centésimo Vigésimo Quinto (125°) del Ministerio Público.

IPYS intentó comunicarse con Juan Camacho, reportero gráfico de la agencia News Report pero no fue posible obtener su testimonio. Por información divulgada en diversos medios impresos se pudo constar que Camacho, también, presentó su denuncia ante el Ministerio Público, asistido por Elenis Rodríguez, representante de la Fundación de Derechos Civiles (Fundeci).

Cámara no devuelta

Esaúd Olivares informó que la asesora jurídica de El Universal envió una comunicación a las autoridades de la Guardia Nacional Bolivariana solicitando que le fuera devuelta la cámara fotográfica que le quitaron al fotógrafo mientras realizaba su labor en las inmediaciones de la Embajada de Cuba. Sin embargo, los funcionarios contestaron que este equipo había sido destruido, según relató González. Entretanto, Esaúd Olivares manifestó que no puede confirmar que su herramienta de trabajo fue destruida, debido a que él pudo constatar que la cámara fue llevada a una unidad móvil del cuerpo militar, que se encontraba en el lugar.

Reporters denounced aggressions by military officers at the public ministry

Between January 14 and 15, 2013, Oliver Fernández, reporter at Televen and graphic reporters Esaúd Olivares of the newspaper El Universal and Juan Camacho of the News Report agency denounced the assaults and aggressions they suffered at the hands of military officers at the General Attorney´s office. These assaults took place when they were covering a peaceful students´ manifestation at the Cuban embassy in Venezuela, in the eastern part of Caracas (/alerta?id=3299)

Esaúd Olivares told IPYS Venezuela that the same day when the physical assault took place, he and Rosanna Ladieri, the legal consultant of El Universal went to the public ministry to denounce this event, in which military officers also took the camera with which he had shot some images when the officials of the Bolivarian National Guards (GNB) repressed the manifestation and arrested some students. The complaint was received by María Franchesca Andrade, thirty-secondth prosecutor (32°) of the public ministry. Olivares also added that on February 19, she consigned at this legal organ the forensic medical report evidencing the assaults she was subjected to and the El Universal February 15 issue containing one of the photographs of the officer who had assaulted her.

Oliver Fernández also informed IPYS Venezuela that on February 15 he went to the public ministry accompanied by Daniel Betancourt, the legal consultant of private TV channel Televen. The complaint was received by the 125^th prosecutor of the public ministry, Juan Barradas.

IPYS attempted to contact Juan Camacho, the graphic reporter of the News Report agency but was unable to obtain his testimony. Through information divulged in several printed media it was verified that Camacho also filed a complaint at the public ministry, assisted by Elenis Rodríguez, representative of the Civil Rights Foundation, Fundeci.

The camera was not returned

Esaúd Olivares informed that the legal advisor of El Universal sent a communiqué to the authorities of the Bolivarian National Guards requesting that the camera taken away from the photographer while doing his job in the vicinity of the Cuban embassy be returned. However, the officials responded that the equipment had been destroyed, according to González. In the meantime, Esaúd Olivares stated that he cannot confirm that his work tool was destroyed, since he is sure that the camera was taken to a mobile unit of the military forces which was on the premises.
