A local newspaper stopped circulating during two weeks

From July 27 until August 11, 2013, Versión Final newspaper, a privately managed tabloid with presence in Zulia state and some western states of Venezuela, was out of circulation. Abraham Puche, the media´s head editor explained to IPYS Venezuela that they had inconveniences for purchasing toilette paper, supplied by a national company. The situation was solved and the newspaper once again started to circulate on August 12.

Puche described that the circulation of the newspaper was suspended for 15 days because the newspaper encountered problems purchasing the large coils of toilette paper, which are furnished by a national company based in Carabobo state.  Seemingly, the problem was generated due to inconveniences in the allocation of foreign currency at the official rate, granted by the National Foreign Currency Commission (Cadivi), the executive entity in charge of allocating foreign currency.

Without revealing their identities, workers at Versión Final informed IPYS Venezuela on July 27th that Alexander Montilla, the media´s director, met with them two days before this event to announce that due to the lack of paper, Versión Final would cease to circulate due to the difficulty in purchasing toilette paper.

The chief editor explained that during the two weeks when the printing of the newspaper was suspended, the editorial department of Versión Final continued to work and that despite the limitations, the newspaper was available for consultation in its web version on www.versionfinal.com.ve.

This situation is considered an indirect factor affecting the media in Venezuela.
