Military men threatened reporters of community media

On August 28, 2013, analysis portal Aporrea.com informed that reporters, who were not identified, working for this digital media and community channel Barrio TV received threats from security military men officials of the presidency of the republic in the vicinity of Miraflores presidential palace, Caracas, capital district. This happened while they were covering a protest of public workers.

“When we were covering these news, aporrea.org together with the comrades of Barrio TV, we received threats from the military headquarters (a military corps in charge of presidential security) and afterwards from the national police stationed there, who threatened to take away our equipment and arrest us as per the fatuous argument that this was a security zone”, they described in the note published on Aporrea.com.

According to the information furnished by the media, the reporter crew was in the vicinity of Miraflores covering a peaceful protest of public employees of Productora y Distribuidora Venezolana de Alimentos (PDVAL) -an executive entity- who were demanding proper labor payment and conditions (http://www.aporrea.org/contraloria/n235194.html).

IPYS Venezuela consulted the directors of Aporrea.com, who confirmed the incident but declined to offer details on the queries posed by this organization.
