Reporters of a local newspaper were fired as a result of the lack of supplies

On September 4, 2013, at least 12 employees were fired from private newspaper El Sol de Maturín, based in Monagas state, which had to stop circulating due to difficulties in the supply of paper to print newspapers on.

This was informed to IPYS Venezuela by Jaqcuelin Márquez, a reporter who used to work as the information coordinator of that printed media. Márquez stated that as a result of the lack of raw materials to print the newspaper on, they were left operating only through their web page, so the newspaper was not operating as usual. As a result of this, the administrator of the media notified the employees that they had to downsize.

Among the fired staff were five social communicators, two graphic reporters, one corrector, three diagrammers and one receptionist.

Since August 24, 2013, el Diario El Sol de Maturín stopped circulating due to the lack of paper to print the newspaper on, as informed by the information coordinator of the printed media, Jaime Leal. He detailed that they have had inconveniences with the supply of paper provided by a national company (http://ipys.org.ve/alerta?id=3585).

This situation represents an indirect measure affecting the work of informing the population, due to difficulties encountered by the media for the purchase of raw material for the production of printed newspapers.
